Add or Edit Metadata

Metadata is the information used to describe an asset and the primary driver of search. It not only enhances searchability, but can also track key pieces of information such as copyright, location, image source and more.

It’s important that your metadata is consistent. There are several tools to assist with this, including creating picklists and a keyword taxonomy. (Read more about configuring the metadata schema.)

*Note: writing metadata to video is supported for most file formats except MPG, MPEG, M2V.

Edit metadata for single asset:

Admin and contributors with edit asset permission for a folder can edit metadata.

• Log into Webdam and select the asset you want to edit.
  
  
• Metadata displays in the Details section of the asset details panel. Click View fields to display all active metadata fields.
  
  Metadata fields must be active to display in the DAM. (Read more about configuring the metadata schema.)
  
  
• Click the space to the right of the metadata field to begin editing. 

• Click the  icon or click to another field to Save.

Edit metadata for multiple assets:

• Log into Webdam and select the asset(s) you want to edit (for multiple assets, hold down the Ctrl key on a PC or the cmd key on a Mac).
  
  
• Click . You can also click  then select Edit metadata.  
  
  
• All selected assets will display at the top of the pop-up. The first assets in the series will display with any associated metadata. Edit the metadata next to the field name.

• To view and edit the metadata for a different asset in the set, click the asset.
  
  
• To apply a metadata template, click the dropdown menu titled Select a metadata template and choose one of the options. (Read more about metadata templates.)
  
  
• Click the dropdown next to the new value you entered and select one of the following.

• Apply to this Asset Only: Default answer, which will only apply the metadata to the selected asset.

• Append to All: Adds the new metadata to any pre-existing metadata for all selected assets .

• Replace All: Overwrites any pre-existing metadata for all selected assets.
  
  
• Click Save.

Suggested keywords:

Suggested keywords utilizes machine learning to scan your images and return a set of recommended words to use as tags for images you’ve uploaded. Use this feature to expedite tagging in Webdam and help standardize the keywords used across your organization. Suggested keywords can be used for images files that are 256px or larger – video files are not supported (click here to see a list of Supported File Formats). Enable Suggested Keywords:

Admins can enable or disable suggested keywords.

• Log into the core application.

• Click  and select System preferences.
  
  
• In the Assets section, check the box next to Allow suggested keywords to enable.

• You will also need to disable Enforce keyword taxonomy in order for the suggested keywords to display.
  
  
• Click Save.

To use suggested keywords:

• Select the image(s) you’d like to tag.

• Click the icon. You can also click the  icon and select Edit metadata.

• Under Suggestions, click + next to the keyword(s) that you’d like to add to the image or click ADD ALL to add all suggestions.

• You can still manually add keywords by typing them into the Add a keyword box (separate keywords with a comma) or by clicking View Keyword List to add from your keyword taxonomy.

• Click the dropdown next to Keywords and select one of the following:

• Apply to this Asset Only: Applies the metadata only to the selected image.

• Append to All: Adds the new metadata for all selected images.

• Replace All: Overwrites any pre-existing metadata for all selected images.

• Use the arrows on the image preview to scroll through your other images and repeat the process of choosing your desired keywords if your images require different tags.
  
  
• Click Save.

• When you’re finished tagging all images, click Close.
